I was reminded by my friend Gary of this incident. I firmly hold the view that there are three sides to any story; your side, my side and the truth.
We were at Margaritaville in Negril swimming out to the buoy and we decided to race back in. I believe we had some debate on whether breaststroke was a faster swimming style than freestyle. So we would race in to the beach, me doing breaststroke and Gary doing freestyle.
MY SIDE
So there I was peacefully swimming along when I looked down in the water and saw a snake (we were near the swamp after all). So I sped up and caught up with Gary and said “Snake” and swam on. Lo and behold who should I see passing me at knots and reaching the shore long before I did but Gary.
HIS SIDE
There he was swimming along when I passed him shouting “Suh-nake! Suh-nake!” and sped along to the shore. At which point he was shouting “IT’S NOT A SNAKE! IT’S NOT A SNAKE! IT’S A ROPE!”
THE TRUTH
WHO KNOWS?
